Modules
Modules are groups of lessons that have been categorized
into seven areas:
1. Characteristics
This module overviews issues in autism spectrum disorders (ASD) such
as current diagnostic criteria, prevalence, characteristics in various
domains, and issues related to diagnosis, medication, and education.
2. Assessment
This module covers both formal and informal assessment techniques applicable
for ASD population. Fundamental information is provided such as clarification
of assessment categories, reviews of instruments or techniques, and
applicability of assessment techniques to different types of ASD symptoms.
3. Academic Interventions
This module contains intervention techniques related to the academic
area. These interventions facilitate the skill acquisition of children
and youth with ASD.
4. Behavioral Interventions
This module introduces a variety of interventions that improve or alleviate
behaviors of children and youth with ASD. Lessons related to applied
behavior analysis and positive behavior supports are included.
5. Communication Interventions
This module consists of interventions that facilitate communication
skills of children and youth with ASD. Many hands-on examples are introduced
in each lesson.
6. Environmental Interventions
This module provides information about effective strategies that feature
environmental modifications. A wide range of approaches including inclusion,
computer-assisted instruction, and visual supports are introduced.
7. Social Interventions
This module presents interventions that improve the social skills of
children and youth with ASD. Topics such as peer-related social strategies
and social stories are discussed.
