Scenario
Fred is a fifth grader diagnosed with autism. He has a
limited vocabulary but is able to understand more than he can verbalize.
When he encounters a person he knows, Fred does not respond appropriately.

When I see someone I know, usually I smile and say "Hi." (Descriptive)
Page two
Sometimes if I pass someone I know in the hall or while Im out,
I can smile, wave, or just nod my head. (Descriptive)
Most people like it when I smile at them, because it makes them feel

If I visit a good friend or a relative, I can shake their hand. (Descriptive)
I could also give them a pat on the back or a small hug. (Descriptive)

Scenario
Jeff is a eleventh grader diagnosed with autism. He does
not shower regularly and the other kids in his class have been complaining.
Page one
People at school shower every day. (Descriptive)
They like to smell good. (Perspective)
I like to smell good, too, so I will take a shower every day. (Perspective)
Taking a warm shower can be relaxing and the smell of soap on my skin
and shampoo in my hair is refreshing. (Descriptive)
Page two
When I am finished scrubbing my body and washing my hair, I need to
rinse all the soap off. (Descriptive)
When I am done, I turn off the shower and dry off. (Descriptive)
I enjoy taking a shower every day, and so do my classmates. (Perspective)
