Developmental/Sensory History
When trying to meet the needs of children
with ASD who experience sensory integration difficulties it is often
necessary to
be aware of information regarding the childŐs development in various
areas. Sensory histories and questionnaires may provide insight into
aspects of sensory processing that may not always be apparent through
direct testing. This information can be extremely valuable when trying
to determine if, indeed, the child is experiencing some form of sensory
integrative dysfunction. We have provided you with a list of several
different tools that are currently available that may be useful during
this process.
These are:
- Sensorimotor History Questionnaire for Preschoolers
(DeGangi & Balzer- Martin, 2000)
- Infant-Toddler Symptom Checklist:
Long Version (DeGangi & Poisson, 2000)
- Sensorimotor History Questionnaire
for Parents of Preschool Children
(Balzar-Martin, 1992)
- Developmental History
(Dejean, 1996)
- Sensorimotor History
(Wilbarger & Oetter, 1986)
- Developmental/Sensory History for Adults and Adolescents
(Occupational Therapy Associates-Watertown, 2003)
Keep in mind that we are attempting to look at
behaviors from a sensory processing perspective. Researchers continue
to learn more and more
about the relationship between sensory processing and behavior. However,
we are still unable to determine definitive cause-effect relationships
and their impact on an individualŐs everyday life.
