An important consideration when developing work basket/shoe box tasks is choosing the appropriate materials to use. There are no specific guidelines for developing these tasks. It is important to look at the developmental level of the person(s) when choosing materials. Simple economics may be another consideration. The materials that are used may be those that are more readily available to the person developing the tasks to save time and money.

It is possible that an individual may still have difficulty completing a task after it has been developed. It may then be necessary to develop a jig so that the specific steps are outlined for the individual in a step-by-step manner so that the sequence is understood from beginning to completion. However, not all work basket/shoe box tasks require a jig.
