People Locators: Introduction

Forum References FAQ's Quiz Lecture Introduction For some children with ASD, not knowing where important people in their lives are at various times can cause immense anxiety, preoccupation, frustration and insecurity. In turn, these feelings can cause the child to display disruptive behaviors. Because of their need for structure and routine, any changes in "who will be where" can ruin the entire day if children are unprepared (and for everyone else around them!).

A simple and effective way to eliminate undesirable behaviors that are a result of this type of anxiety is to use a "People Locator." A People Locator simply gives the child information about where the people in her life are visual in a format that is easily understood by the child.
